Paula LaPlant Principal of the Year

Southmont Elementary School is celebrating a special honor for its very own leader! Last week, district leaders announced that Mrs. Paula LaPlant has been named the Randolph County School System’s Principal of the Year for the 2026–2027 school year.

The exciting news brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and creative celebrations throughout Southmont as faculty and staff found a unique way to show their appreciation for Mrs. LaPlant. In a fun twist on a traditional congratulations celebration, staff members participated in a “Bring Anything but a Congratulations Balloon” day, filling the celebration with a colorful and unexpected assortment of balloons to honor their principal.

Adding an extra-special touch to the celebration, students across the school signed a banner to share their congratulations and show their support for Mrs. LaPlant. The student-signed banner served as a meaningful reminder of the many lives she touches each day and the strong connections she has built within the Southmont school community.

The celebration reflected the pride, enthusiasm, and appreciation Southmont's faculty, staff, and students have for a leader who makes a difference in their school. From the creative balloon display to the heartfelt messages from students, the school community made sure Mrs. LaPlant knew just how much this recognition means to them.

And if the balloons were any indication, Mrs. LaPlant is ready to celebrate just about any occasion!

The Randolph County School System congratulates Mrs. LaPlant on being named the 2026–2027 Principal of the Year. This well-deserved recognition celebrates her leadership and the positive impact she makes on the Southmont Elementary School community. We are proud to celebrate this achievement with her and look forward to seeing her continued impact on students, staff, and families.

Congratulations, Mrs. LaPlant! Southmont Elementary is lucky to have you leading the way!
